TWO Mutare men are fighting over one child after the mother told both men that they were the biological fathers on different occasions.

With the ex-lover threatening to reveal to her husband that he is the father of their three-year-old child, the woman approached the courts on Monday.

Prisca Master appeared at the Mutare Magistrates’ Civil Courts seeking a protection order against her ex-boyfriend Brian Seke who insisted that the child in question was his and that Master and her husband would not let him call or visit the child.

In her application, Master begged the court to stop Seke from claiming that he had fathered her child.

She revealed that he was harassing her through phone calls and text messages demanding that she give him his child.

She told the court that Seke claimed that he had fathered her child and threatened to tell her husband the lies, with the intention of breaking up her marriage.

“Your Worship, he is my ex-boyfriend. He recently took my husband’s and my phone numbers forcefully. Now he calls me daily, threatening to call my husband and tell him that he (Seke) is the father of our child. I know that he is not the father of my child, my husband is the real father but Seke will not hear of it,” said Master.

She also told the court that Seke was threatening to kill her husband and herself if she fails to give him ‘his’ child.

Seke however, told the court that he did not know that he was in a love-triangle with Master and her husband as he was made to believe that he was her only lover at the time the child was conceived. In his defence, Seke stated that he was cohabiting with Master when she got pregnant and later delivered the baby at Sakubva Clinic.

“Your Worship, we were staying together. I impregnated her and paid for all the pregnancy expenses that we incurred.

‘‘She went in labour and I took her to Sakubva Clinic where I waited for her as she delivered the baby and I took her home upon delivery,” said Seke.

“Your Worship, she has my child and I do not see why the court or anyone else has to bar me from calling her and her husband. I only do that for the love of my child that I have. All I want is access to see my child that they are staying with,” begged Seke.

Ms Manhibi advised Seke to go for DNA tests with the child if he really believed that he was the father, contrary to what Master was saying. She also told him that the only person who knows the father of a child is the mother.

A peace order was however, granted in favour of Master.
