Two killed in hit-and-run accidents

A COMMUTER omnibus conductor who was driving a Toyota Hiace crushed a 66-year-old man to death, while an eight-year old boy died after being hit by a vehicle in separate hit-and-run accidents that happened early this week.

In the first incident which happened in Dangamvura, an eight-year-old boy identified as Lincoln was ran over by a Blue Toyota Passo and died on the spot.

The driver of the vehicle sped off soon after committing the offence. He is still at large.

In another incident that happened on the same day, Michael Makwatse (20) who is employed as a conductor at Chitinha Tours and was driving a Toyota Hiace hit Michael Mazunye near Fairbridge Park shops. Mazunye died upon arrival at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

“The driver failed to control his vehicle and hit Mazunye who had just crossed the road and was walking towards the shops. The driver sped off. An unknown well-wisher rushed Mazunye to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, but he died upon admission. Detectives identified the car on the same day and the driver was arrested,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda.
