THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Acting Mutare Town Clerk – Anthony Mutara – and former mayor of the city – Tatenda Nhamarare – on corruption allegations.

Mutara is facing allegations of corruptly recruiting his relatives and friends to fill up top job positions at the Civic Centre, while Nhamarare is said to have manipulated council procedures to allocate himself a residential stand during his time in office.

The duo are currently detained at Mutare Central Police Station and will appear in court tomorrow.

The ZACC arresting details confirmed the arrest, but could not shed more light citing protocol.

Mutare mayor, Councillor Blessing Tandi confirmed the arrest of Mutara and said: “Yes, I have been informed that he has been picked up by ZACC, but I do not have more details as I am out of town.”

Nhamarare confirmed his arrest through the social media and said: “I have been arrested on unprocedural allocation of my beneficial residential stand that I was allocated as councillor. I will appear in court tomorrow, the stand in question is where I am residing in Palmerstone, Mutare.”
