CDE Stanely Sakupwanya (Junior) (SS) was recently elected ZANU PF Manicaland Youth League provincial chairperson.

The son to the late national hero, Dr Stanely Urayayi Sakupwanya(SS), this week shared his insights on what will characterise his tenure of office with our Rusape Correspondent, Lovemore Kadzura (LK).

Below is the full interview:

***********************
LK: First of all, I would like to congratulate you for being elected the provincial youth chairperson for Manicaland Province. People would like to know who is Cde Stanely Sakupwanya?

SS: I am Cde Stanely Sakupwanya, the newly elected provincial youth league chairman. I am a graduate from the University of Kwazulu Natal in South Africa. I am holder of a Bachelor in Commerce which I completed in 2011, whereupon I formally joined the party structures.

I started right from the bottom as the secretary for security and rose to be youth chairman at party district level. In 2020, I was elected the secretary for youths in the Makoni District Coordinating Committee.

From then on, I saw the opportunity to better my positioning in the party and contested for the provincial youth chairmanship.

LK: What motivated you to contest for the position you currently hold?

SS: I was heavily involved in the party programmes and two harmonised election campaigns in 2013 and 2018. I have the required experience, and also I have the right age.

Not many youths who have travelled the journey over such a long period of time still have the age and competency to take this position. I am prepared to go a step further to put more effort to make sure that our party resoundingly wins the 2023 harmonised elections.

LK: How are you going to use your position to mobilise five million votes for Zanu PF Presidential candidate, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, in the 2023 harmonised elections?

SS: For us to win the elections, it starts by making sure that youths register to vote. Registration of youths as voters is crucial to ensure victory for the party and President Mnangagwa.

Most youths spend most of their time on social media, so we have tailor-made programmes targeted at them. We want to increase our voter base.

The engagement aspect will be rigorously pursued.

It is not only about communicating the voter registration message, but also educating our youths to vote wisely, to vote for people who bring development in their constituencies.

At national level President Mnangagwa is the best person for that role.

We will be preaching the gospel of production, do it yourself instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you. This is the message the President is preaching. Youths must participate in the national economy and enjoy the national cake.

LK: The just-ended provincial elections were hotly contested, now that you have emerged the winner, how will you unite the Zanu PF membership in general?

SS: We are convening inter-district meetings where the entire provincial leadership is meeting the districts’ leadership.

As the youth league, we are also doing the same, meeting our structures and preaching the gospel of unity.

Our target is to make sure that Zanu PF wins all the forthcoming by-elections.

We need to approach the elections as a united front. A house that is not united will fall. In our programmes and projects, we will make sure that everyone is included. We will not tolerate anyone who sow seeds of disunity or proponents of bhora musango.

lf Manicaland remains united, it will contribute significantly to the five million votes to ensure a sweeping victory for President Mnangagwa.

LK: What are some the programmes in place for youths to woo them to Zanu PF?

SS: The Zanu PF Government has initiated many programmes that will benefit the youths immensely.

As we are aware, President Mnangagwa recently gave Manicaland Province 70 cattle to kick-start animal husbandry, so our duty is to make sure that they are distributed to deserving youths.

We will also make sure that the 500 hectares of land availed for youths are distributed in a transparent manner.

A number of programmes have been lined up, but the main challenge is how youths will benefit from them.

If there are loans from Empower Bank, youths at the furthest corner of Manicaland must get access to them.

LK: There is a misconception that Zanu PF is a party for senior citizens only, how will the youth league motivate the young generation to join the revolutionary party?

SS: What is important is to know that the older generation, including war veterans, are vital cogs in the party machinery. We are enjoying fruits of the sacrifices made by the war veterans.

We would not be having the land we are all clamouring for had it not been for their selfless contributions. We cannot erase that important piece of history.

They played their part, now it is our time to play our part. It is a matter of passing on the baton without necessarily competing.

Most youths do not understand the sacrifices made by the older generation, and it is our duty to educate them.

We want to make sure that the Chitepo School of Ideology is decentralised so that youths get proper orientation of the party ideology.

We do not want the gains of the liberation struggle to be reversed. It is the youths’ responsibility to take the country forward politically and economically for the country to attain Vision 2030.

Everyone must put their hands on the deck for the economy to thrive.
