STUNG by the pain of being deserted by his wife, a 24-year-old Marange man resorted to unorthodox means of trying to win her heart back.

Cames Chitsa of Chitsa Village will, however, not reunite with his estranged wife any time soon after he was jailed nine years for stock theft.

Chitsa pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Mutare magistrate Ms Perseverance Makala.

In his defense, Chitsa told the court that he committed the crime in an attempt to lure back his wife with money after selling the stolen cattle.

“Your Worship, my wife dumped me and she took everything when she went away. I have been suffering ever since. However, in my efforts to win her back I committed the crime with the hope that I would make a lot of money and lure her back,” said Chitsa.

Prosecuting, Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza said on August 9 Chitsa stole a heifer and an ox that belonged to Irene Mureyani and Fungai Muradzikwa, respectively.

“The accused went to Bezley Bridge Business Centre and approached Malvin Masiyakurima who runs a butchery at the business centre and told him that he was selling two cows. Masiyakurima became suspicious and alerted the police,” said Ms Chiwanza.

A trap was set up, leading to Chitsa’s arrest when he delivered the cattle.
