They never helped me, why should I help him?: Klopp Jurgen Klopp says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can solve Manchester United’s woes by spending

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s best hope of solving Manchester United’s woes is to turn to the transfer window this summer.

United fell to a 2-0 defeat by Manchester City on Wednesday night, when a victory or a draw would have paved the way for Liverpool to win the Premier League by emerging victorious in their last three matches.

Solskjaer is coming under increasing scrutiny due to United’s dramatic downturn since he became full-time manager but Klopp believes a successful transfer window can solve their problems.

When asked how he dealt with arriving at Liverpool mid-season like Solskjaer, Klopp referenced Wednesday’s result with a smile: ‘They never helped us, why should we help them?

‘‘You have to find your own solutions! No, he needs time.

‘‘I need time, he needs time.

‘You cannot perform wonders, none of us can do that. It is quite a competitive league. I don’t think you’ll find a lot of people speaking too positively about me when I came here in October if we didn’t have a good ride in the Europa League.

‘We all have to try our best and work every day. In the end, I think the financial power of United is big enough to sort the problems.’

United have the odds stacked against them to finish in the top four now, while Wednesday’s result also means that Liverpool need to win all three of their remaining Premier League games and hope City slip up in order to win the title.

Klopp said the game unfolded as he had anticipated and now has to rely on one of Burnley, Leicester or Brighton taking something off of Pep Guardiola’s side.

‘I watched it together with my missus and a friend and my friend said “how can you be that calm?” Klopp told Sky Sports.

‘It happened exactly as I expected, United played obviously a very good first half [but] in the moment they can’t stand City for 90 minutes so it was clear if nothing really strange would happen then City would win that game.

‘I was not surprised or whatever, not nervous when I watched it. I actually assessed myself how it feels and I was completely calm so it’s all good. It was always clear, if we win our games which is difficult enough, then the decision will be made on the last match day.

‘If they would have lost last night then the decision would have been made on the last match day at the earliest, because we should expect them winning all their games.

‘Maybe then it’s about nerves or whatever we will see. Until then we have to deliver and we have to win football games. They are all difficult, always for different reasons.’ – Daily Mail
