MANICALAND snooker players continue to earn national recognition after Mutare-based Soul City Club player, Allen ‘The Headmaster’ Changadzo qualified to be part of Team Zimbabwe that will take part in the World BI Championships in Bridlington, United Kingdom later this year.

Changadzo’s achievement in the game of pool comes hard on the heels of yet another Mutare-based Rozvie Empire Club snooker player, Godknows Masona’s scooping of the pole position in this year’s national Carling Black Label contest.

The Carling Black Label Tournament recently featured an impressive line-up of 128 players, comprising 64 men and 64 ladies from various provinces across Zimbabwe.

However, it is last weekend’s impressive exploits of Changadzo that has now caught the imagination of the snooker fraternity in the province.

“I feel that this is an achievement for us as a province, and not only for myself as an individual. I am grateful for the support I received from my club and the Mutare Pool League in general. I will always strive to be a good ambassador of the game of snooker in Manicaland,” he said.

In a statement, Mutare Pool League chairperson, Peter Makwanzini, called on stakeholders to render the player all the necessary financial, material and moral support.

“We are incredibly proud of Allen Changadzo (The Headmaster) for his qualification into the national team. As province, we are happy that we are represented as well. As MPL, we wish him the best, and to continue keeping his good behaviour up to the last. What we need now is to support him as a province, financially and morally. I believe he will shine,” he said.

Makwanzini said Changadzo’s qualification, together with the recent achievement by Masona are ample evidence of the growing status of the game of snooker in Manicaland.

“His qualification is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport, and we have no doubt that he will make a valuable contribution to the national team. It is also testament to the growing standards of the game of snooker in Manicaland Province.

“The Mutare Pool League wishes The Headmaster the best of luck as he prepares to represent Zimbabwe at the World BI Championships. We look forward to cheering him on as he strives for excellence and bringing pride to our province and country,” he said.

Changadzo emerged victorious in the national qualifiers tournament, securing a spot among the final eight players who will represent Zimbabwe at the World BI Championships in Bridlington, UK.

The Headmaster’s impressive performance has earned him a well-deserved place alongside the country’s elite players, and he is now one step closer to competing on the global stage.
