IF the bad news is that the sport entertainment starved community of Chipinge witnessed the crumbling of Gaza Gunners late last year, then the good news is the birth of a new community based Division One outfit Chipinge Stars.

The brainchild of renowned Namibian based land surveyor Gibson ‘Gibalo’ Marwa, who traces his roots to the Mutema area of Chipinge, the new Chipinge Stars project brings together a consortium of businessmen and well wishers in the small farming town.

Chipinge Stars are already affiliated with the Eastern Region Division One.

Chipinge Stars secretary Thomas Simango confirmed that they will be playing in the Eastern Region Division One this year.

“We are happy that we now have a truly community based team here in Chipinge. This is a team that does not belong to any individual but the people of Chipinge.

“There is no doubt that it will compete favourably given the fact that we have lots of talented players in the district.

‘‘We hope to make full use of the talent that we have here in Chipinge to build a formidable outfit. We have already done of the logistics of joining the Eastern Region Division One and our pre-season preparation will begin soon,” said Simango. He added that the technical team will soon be officially unveiled together with the players.

“We have names that we think will make up the technical team and we are still negotiating with the individuals. It would be unprofessional for me to name people before finalising negotiations.

In fact, we will soon be officially unveiling the technical department and the players,” said Simango.

Chipinge has produced a number of talented players that include Eddie Dube and Lovemore Mapuya but most of the clubs formed in the town like Dairi Steri, Council Stars, Gaza Gunners and Chipinge United crumbled with the passage of time mainly due to poor funding.

However, the birth of Chipinge Stars, whose principal sponsor would be Marwa, is expected to bring together businessmen in the town such as Danmore Dzonzi Hlerema and Gonye among many others in funding the team.
