A MUTARE woman is accusing her estranged husband of devouring sumptuous food without offering their hungry children.

This emerged when Venencia and Artwell Kimbini recently appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato at the civil court.

Venencia was applying for a protection order against her ex-husband.

Mr Chipato granted the protection order in her favour.

Venencia revealed that after their relationship turned sour, Artwell moved out of their matrimonial bedroom and occupied one of the spare rooms.

She said Artwell starting cooking his own meals in his room.

“He started cooking delicious meals as if he wanted to scorn us. The aroma of the food fills the whole house and we are left drooling. He devours the food in the presence of our hungry children without offering them anything,” explained Venencia, highlighting that she is struggling to put food on the table.

“What pains me the most is that he refuses to share his food with the children, even though he knows that they have nothing to eat. They ask me about their father’s weird behaviour,” she said.

Venencia also begged the court to evict Artwell from the house, claiming that she is the one who bought the residential stand and built their three-roomed house.

“He insists that he will not move out and that he will deal with me if I insist on his eviction. He is very violent and assaults me regularly. After giving me a divorce token, he moved into our kids’ bedroom and I am now sharing the main bedroom with them.

“He should move out of my house so that I can put a tenant in that room and use that money to buy food for my children,” charged the woman.

In response, Artwell said he had no qualms about the granting of the protection order to Venencia.

He, however, argued that Venencia is the one who divorced him and ordered him out of their matrimonial bedroom.

He also denied neglecting his children’s needs.

“The food is not out of this world, Your Worship. I also do not eat the food in the presence of my children. I feed myself behind closed doors. Venencia is being economic with the truth because if she had no money for the grocery, she would have told me and I would have chipped in,” he said.

Artwell also claimed ownership of the house.

“The truth is that I gave her the money to pay for the stand. She used her name to buy the stand but I am the one who built the house with my hard earned money. Since she is the one who divorced me, she should leave the house for me and the kids,” he said.

In granting the protection order, Mr Chipato said it is clear that the couple has failing to co-exist peacefully.

He, however, advised the couple to make a distribution of property application.
