TENNIS Zimbabwe (TZ) says they are now waiting for Government’s approval for them to resume local and international competitions as everything is now in place.

Sporting disciplines like cricket and football recently got the green-light to start training and competing.

Cricket fans are warming up to the Chevrons’ clash against Pakistan, while domestic club cricket is already underway. On the soccer field, administrative chaos has been the stumbling block, but the central authority gave the nod for resumption of training.

TZ administrator, Cliff Nhokwara told Post Sport that they are waiting for Government’s nod through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC). Nhokwara said TZ is financially and logistically ready for the resumption of action.

He said the International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments that had been lined up before the Covid-19 pandemic derailed everything are still on the table.

“Plans for the ITFs are still in place. We will have one in Bulawayo and two in Harare. However, all plans hinge on SRC’s approval. Local events will be scheduled once we receive Government’s approval,” he said.

Nhokwara also highlighted the changes in the sporting calendar.

“We will revert to the normal schedule next year. We used to have our ITFs in March and August but things have changed for this year,” he said.
