TO raise awareness of diabetes as a global public health issue, the Zimbabwe Diabetic Association (ZDA) partnered with the Ministry of Health and Child Care and operated a mobile diabetes clinic at Hauna Growth Point in Honde Valley yesterday.

Speaking while dishing out the free services at the mobile clinic, Mutasa District Medical Officer, Dr Cephas Fonte, said it being a lifestyle disease, patients were also encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“From stresses and not caring about what one eats, it all comes down to an unhealthy lifestyle.

“It is sad to note that more people in the rural areas have been diagnosed with diabetes in the first three quarters of this year due to unhealthy lifestyles,” he said.

World Diabetes Day is celebrated on November 14 (today) annually.

ZDA Manicaland board chairperson, Bishop Jeremiah Matenhese, reiterated that leading a healthy lifestyle is key and encouraged diabetic patient to eat healthy while visiting medical health facilities regularly for check-ups.
