PEOPLE living with disabilities (PLWD) in Chipinge received a shot in the arm after transport and logistics giant Swift Zimbabwe donated wheelchairs and food stuffs to five beneficiaries.

The gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, which has seen all its branches across the country donating to the disabled members of community.

Each wheelchair is valued at US$400.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on today, Chipinge District social development officer, Mr Raphel Zongoro, said the donation will go a long way in sustaining the beneficiaries’ daily needs.

“We are grateful because there are many people living with disabilities who require wheelchairs in Chipinge. The donation came in handy as the assistive devices are expensive and beyond the reach of those who need them,” said Mr Zongoro.

District rehabilitation technician, Mr Tayengwa Chadura, also expressed gratitude and implored society to look after people with disabilities.

He also urged other corporates to emulate Swift Zimbabwe’s benevolence.

“This is a noble initiative and as a community we urge other business entities to extend their helping hand to homes and schools that house people with disabilities and ensure there is infrastructure that benefit them,” he said.

Swift Zimbabwe supervisor Mr Aaron Mugiyo said his organisation will continue ploughing back into communities in areas they operate in.

Mr Mugiyo added that they are committed to joining forces with other partners to assist people living with disabilities.
