A MUTARE man who sold a residential stand belonging to someone to an unsuspecting home-seeker and pocketed R65 000 from the fraudulent transaction has been slapped with a 20 month imprisonment.

Tinashe Usavi (40) appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makhala, last Friday facing fraud charges.

Of the sentence, four months were suspended on condition of good behaviour while another eight months were set aside on condition that he restitutes the complainant Patience Mwaramba.

He will serve an effective eight months.

Public prosecutor Mr Matthew Chimutunga told the court that on July 20, 2017 Usavi misrepresented to Mwaramba that he and his wife Emily Mutsa Maisvoreva were the owners of stand Number 8324 Natview Park, Mutare.

They then sold the stand to the complainant.

Mwaramba later discovered that the land belonged to Godwin Dambudzo, who had all the necessary documentation.

A police report was made resulting in the arrest of Usavi and his wife.

However, the court acquitted Maisvoreva as there was no compelling evidence linking her to the commission of the crime.
