MUTARE social soccer side, Socco Golden Stars, will celebrate their first year of existence with a potentially explosive tournament that will bring teams from far and wide at Mutare Sports Club tomorrow.
This is further testimony of the popularity that social soccer has been gaining over the years.
Only last Saturday, social soccer teams in Mutare turned Chinyausunzi Ground in Sakubva into a hive of activity as people from different walks of life converged to witness Ghetto Stars romp to victory and book a ticket in the national finals.
As the popularity of social soccer is continuously growing, teams from Harare, Gweru, Rusape and Mutare will be converging in the eastern border city for popular outfit, Socco Golden Stars’ first anniversary tournament.
The well-known Mutare social soccer outfit, Socco Golden Stars, which promotes health and wellness among male adults through football, is bankrolled by entrepreneur, Ruramai Nyakonga.
As part of the club’s birthday commemorations, eight social soccer teams – including flamboyant Harare side, Panjap Motors, fellow Harare outfit, Americans, Gweru-based Nato, Vengere Boozers from Rusape as well as Mutare-based clubs, Sisal Stars FC, Igwe Stars, La-Rochelle and the hosts will clash in the potentially exciting social soccer fete.
Nyakonga said: “As Socco Golden Stars, we are excited to announce that our club has been in existence for a year now, and we feel it is something worth celebrating.
“To this end, we have invited a number of clubs to join us and play our beloved game of football in a relaxed environment. It is an opportunity to network, form business partnerships, friendship, while ensuring that we keep our bodies healthy.”
With the health and wellness theme permeating communities among adults across social strata, the Socco Golden Stars first anniversary tournament will likely draw multitudes of participants and spectators.
