THE ever-growing popularity of pool, also widely known as snooker, has extended to peri-urban and rural communities, with a potentially thrilling clash of 10 teams set to take place at Eyewitness, Bvirindi Business Centre in Dora Dombo, just outside Mutare tomorrow (Saturday).

The participating teams include Eyewitness, Legacy, Amarv, Chidzere, Quality Zone, Reeds, Munongedzo, Tenax, Chairman, Sparks, Galaxy, and Beloepass.

Ideally, the game of pool has gained immense popularity, with both young and old, urban and rural dwellers taking up the game, not only as a leisure activity, but also as a highly competitive pursuit.

In an interview, Eyewitness spokesperson, Tendai Takabika stated that hosting the tournament in a peri-urban setting aims to nurture untapped talent and provide entertainment for both urban residents who can commute and those living in peri-urban areas.

“We will be hosting this pool or snooker contest at Bvirindi Business Centre in Dora Dombo, with Eyewitness as the host venue. There is a wealth of talent in snooker in these areas, and this is an opportunity to promote it. We believe this is one way to popularise the game of pool, and as Eyewitness is situated in a peri-urban area, exactly 12km from Golden Peacock via Dangamvura Cemetery, past 3.1 Barracks (Gimboki), and to the left of Munowenyu’s outlet, we aim to reach out to these areas where the game is needed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Mutare Pool League (MPL) season commenced with the Chairman’s Cup tournament held last weekend, and league matches are expected to begin at various venues across the city this weekend.
