MUTARE Pool League outfit, Shoverland, went on a transfer window shopping spree and acquired the services of four top players from log leaders, Rozvie Empire, in a development that might have a huge bearing on the performance of both teams.

Rozvie Empire have literally personlised the MPL top spot for a number of months now, but Shoverland have been piling on pressure on the log leaders.

And in pursuit of their dreams, Shoverland have added to their books the talented quartet of Johannes ‘Sir Bhutsu’ Mundihwo, Talent ‘Falcon’ Pandukai, Innocent Gurumombe and Lwazilenkosi ‘Benzero’ Moyo.

However, Rozvie have welcomed back their exceptionally talented prodigal sons, Tawanda ‘Kabhidha’ Muriri and Godknows ‘Sir Gode’ Masona, who had joined Beer Garden earlier in the 2023 season.

MPL fixtures secretary, Lloyd ‘Hipsta’ Samanga, confirmed that Shoverland recently signed the top performing four players from Rozvie Empire.

“We can confirm that the top four teams in MPL are in pursuit of different fine performing players and they are actually chasing the transfer window deadline.

“Shoverland signed four elite players. We can confirm that four elite players Johannes ‘Sir Bhutsu’ Mundihwo, Talent ‘Falcon’ Pandukai, Innocent Gurumombe and Lwazilenkosi ‘Benzero’ Moyo moved from the defending champions to Shoverland. We also have Beer Garden two elites returning to Rozvi in Tawanda ‘Kabhidha’ Muriri and Godknows ‘Sir Gode’ Masona,” said Samanga.

The MPL was in the news recently for the wrong reasons after reportedly turning a blind eye to unprocedural transfer disputes, and it appears consensus was reached among affiliate clubs on the player transfer compensations.

Even though the actual value of player transfers and remuneration in MPL is not made public and could be minimal amounts ranging from US$50 to US$200, some clubs can hardly afford attracting fine and top performing players in this widely followed and exciting league which has been gaining interest and followership in recent years in the eastern border city and beyond.

Meanwhile, Mutare’s premier pool match venue, Villa Spot is at an advanced stage in its preparations ahead of the prestigious countrywide, NEPAZ Tournament.

The tournament is set for next weekend.

Villa Spot proprietor, Abel Zhakata said: “As Villa Spot, we are excited to host this prestigious tournament which brings to the table the best pool players in the country. This also gives an opportunity to local pool players to compete with the best and fine tune their tactics to international standards.

“Over the years since we began hosting NEPAZ, our Mutare players have not disappointed. They have won the competition on several occasions, and we hope they will do this time around. It will be a big event and several sponsors have come on board.”
