DETERMINATION is prevailing over experience in the Mutare Pool League (MPL) where new boys Shoverland Pool Club are taking no prisoners and making a mockery of the pedigree of teams that have been in this league for a long time.

The Chikanga TM based outfit, which has been collecting maximum points week in week out as they remain unbeaten, is perched on the summit of the 18-team table.

League defending champions Rozvie Empire and Villa Spot are keeping the pressure on the log leaders, tied at 21 points, trailing the pacesetters Shoverland by just three points.

Clueless Winsor and Buffaloes, who anchor the league table after seven rounds of 2023 MPL matches, are yet to win a league match since the start of the season.

In match day eight round of league fixtures, the log leaders are likely to make a meal out of basemen outfit Buffalo.

Shoverland captain Believe Mutore expressed confidence that his team will be on top of the log for a long time to come.

“With our quality of play and the determination, we see ourselves remaining on top of the log for a long time. We are determined to keep winning our matches and that can be achieved given the fact that the morale is high.

Meanwhile, the MPL will have a one-man tournament to be co-hosted by Acid and Fantasy clubs at Acid Complex in Zimta, Mutare, on Saturday (tomorrow).

The battle for the top prize is expected to pit Mutare’s number one Beer Garden’s Tatenda Chikara, Godknows ‘Sir Gode’ Masona, veteran player Munyaradzi ‘Area Father’ Nedziwe and Rozvie Empire Again ‘Sir Never’ Maroewe, among a galaxy of emerging stars.

Participating players have already started registering for the competition at a US$10 fee.

MPL fixtures secretary Lloyd Samanga confirmed the one-man tournament.

“This time around we will be playing at a Race to Five format so that we match the standards at national elite level. We are going to have a one-man tournament to be co-hosted by Acid and Fantasy clubs at Acid Complex in Zimta,” said Samanga.
