FOUR suspected shoplifters – two men and two women – were recently caught red-handed stealing liquor in Pick ‘n’ Pay’s Mutare Central Business District branch.

Luck ran out for Richard Kamwendo, Langton Simbabure, Memory Muchayi and Yvonne Maradza — who appeared to have a taste for the finer and expensive things in life — when they were immediately apprehended on their way out of the supermarket having gone past the till points without paying for the three 750ml bottles of J & B whiskey. The loot, with a total value of RTGS600, was recovered on one of the suspects’ person stashed in his pants.

They were then handed over to the police at Mutare Central Police Station.

The giant retail’s loss control officer Josphat Nyamudoka warned other would-be offenders that they can attempt theft in Pick ‘n’ Pay at their own peril.

“Shoplifting is one of the major problems that we continue facing here, but we have put in place mechanisms to monitor every inch of the shop floor that we are always on high alert and on the lookout for such miscreants.

“Pick ‘n’ Pay will not hesitate nabbing those caught stealing inside the shop and stern measures shall be taken against them, one of which is to take them to the police. In extreme cases for habitual offenders, we will push for their prosecution,” said Nyamudoka.
