CHANCES of Zanu PF wrestling back the orphaned Makoni South constituency are increasing with each passing day as key MDC Alliance officials and supporters are defecting to the revolutionary party.Zanu PF’s preparedness to part ways with some recycled and overrated candidates that served under the ousted regime of Mr Robert Mugabe and take on board new dynamic and progressive players that communities look to for a fresh start has now significantly bearing fruits in Makoni South where MDC Alliance officials and supporters are defecting in huge numbers.

Zanu PF is being represented by businessman-cum-corporate lawyer from a prominent family in the area Cde Misheck Dudzai Mataranyika – who has given the ruling party fresh impetus with tangible and life-changing developmental projects, some of which he started years before nursing political ambitions.

MDC Alliance is represented by little known Mr John Kutiya, who has hardly made impact since being declared a candidate, prompting some party officials and candidates to shun his campaigns for the Zanu PF juggernaut.

Known MDC Alliance supporters are thronging Zanu PF rallies and campaign meetings spearheaded by Cde Mataranyika in Makoni South confessing that they had joined the opposition because they were fed up with for Mr Mugabe’s long grip on power and unpunished corrupt tendencies of his inner circle.

Mr Peter Makaure, the husband of former MDC-T councillor for Ward 27 (Rukweza) last week led hordes of opposition defectors to throw full weight behind the new dispensation led by President Mnangagwa.

Mr Makaure confessed being charmed by President Mnangagwa’s insistence of a direct relationship between the health of politics and the economy, saying the answer to the country’s teething problems lies with the new dispensation displacing the old order that had become an albatross around people’s necks.

He also hailed the donation-driven and unifying politics of Cde Mataranyika.
