Serial robbers arrested

Three of the marauding illegal gold panners have since been arrested and were arraigned before the courts facing attempted murder charges

DETECTIVES in Chipinge have arrested two notorious robbers who had allegedly transformed the district into a terror zone.

Chipinge Criminal Investigation Department (CID) official Assistant Inspector Vincent Chikuvadze confirmed the arrest of Edmore Mtisi (22) of Muhizo village under Chief Mutema and Stanford Mataruse (22) of Mabhoga village in Bikita.

Asst Insp Chikuvadze said the apprehension of the two suspects will help clear several outstanding cases of unlawful entry, which had occurred in Chipinge over the years.

He said the two have been on police wanted list for years.

“On January 16, the accused persons, who were on police wanted list, went to house number 1646 Usanga high-density suburb, Chipinge, around 11pm and forcibly opened door while the owner of the house was asleep.

“They broke the door using logs and iron bars to gain entry. While inside, the two accused person stole two 12-volt solar batteries, blankets, 32 dinner plates, 18 water glasses, 24 cups, nine travel bags, 20 bed sheets, three comforters, five duvets, two 32-inch plasma television sets, a sewing machine and three welding machines.”
