POPULAR businessman and legislator, Scott Sakupwanya, will be part of the flamboyant, and star-studded Pan Jap Motors social soccer outfit that will be competing against three other clubs in a potentially explosive social soccer fete at Mutare Boys’ High tomorrow (Saturday).
The event starts at 10am.
Pan Jap Motors is a collection of yesteryear stars that include Dumisani Mpofu, Oscar Machapa, Masimba Dinyero, Washington Pakamisa and David Sengu, among other footie geniuses who used to roam in our football stadia.
Once again, the power of the game of football to foster social cohesion will be at work when youthful Mutare-born, but Harare-based businessman, Fally Ipupa Jr, hosts this event in remembrance of his late father, Elijah Gaza Sithole.
The late Sithole was a staunch Dynamos fan.
The event, which was initially scheduled for August 3, will finally get underway tomorrow, with Ipupa Jr hosting the fast rising Mutare social soccer outfit, Socco Golden Stars, Igwe Stars, Boarder Pirates and Pan Jap Motors FC.
Ipupa Jr, himself a passionate Dynamos fan as well, said: “This is an initiative that I thought will help honour a man who supported Dynamos for a lifetime. He was the chairman of Dynamos Supporters’ Association’s Manicaland Chapter for quite some time. He loved Dynamos with a passion, so therefore, I just felt this will be a benefiting remembrance for him.”
Ipupa Jr still cherishes the fond memories of how he attended Dynamos matches in the company of his late father, who died when he was doing Form One.
He confirmed that Sakupwanya and a number of yesteryear stars will grace the event.
“We will have prizes for winners, and lots of fun during the event. Apart from the galaxy of yesteryear stars that we will be having as Pan Jap Motors FC, we are also going to have businessman, Scott Sakupwanya as part of the team,” he said.
Such is the power and popularity of social soccer that almost all contemporary communities — urban and rural included — are finding common understanding and cohesion through social soccer.
It appears as if the social soccer frenzy is leaving no one and no place behind!
