MUTARE-based sungura musician, Brian Samaita has broken a year-long silence with the release of a new six-track album titled “Ndafunga Dembo”.

It is arguably the musician’s best album judging from the response it is receiving on local radio stations.

The album is curtained up by a potential hit, “Handityi Kufa”, a track where the singer begs God for more life and health to raise his children.

The musician also takes time to honour the Mbizi dynasty, popularly known as Manjenjenje, on the song “Samaita”. The song is a fusion of jiti and sungura.

Veteran sungura artiste, Somandla Ndebele features on the song “Hombarume.”

The artiste castigates people who seek wealth-enhancing charms on the song “Kuromba”. He lambastes people who sacrifice innocent lives of relatives, including children, in a bid to amass wealth and power.

The album was recorded and produced by Bothwell “African” Nyamhondera at Diamond Studios.

Among other things that make the album special is a line-up of instrumentalists who worked on the album.

Spenser Khumulani exhibited his bass guitar-strumming prowess, while Evidence Tarabuku, fondly known as Baba Gari was on lead guitar.

Samaita, in an interview, said he was happy with the response the album has received so far.

“It is encouraging that after working so hard you receive such an overwhelming response. I worked hard to come up with this project and it is encouraging that the fans are recognising my efforts.

“My publicity team is working extra hard to make sure that copies of the new album reach every corner of the country. I will soon embark on whirlwind tours across the country to market the new album,” he added.

His previous projects include “Tsono”, “Murodzi Wepfungwa”, “Nemiwo Munazvo” and “Kumaziva Ndadzoka”.
