THE life changing experiences of female rugby players at Sahumani Secondary in Honde Valley continues unfolding after they were guaranteed of fulfilling their high school education following the payment of ZWL$63 000 school fees by Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Aaron Jani.

“We have been impressed by the level of commitment and talent in Honde Valley at Sahumani Secondary but we were all concerned about the resources that are lacking at for the girl child.
“So when the issue came up during our whirlwind tour of all the provinces, we thought it prudent to help the girl child after showing so much potential. The issue of some of them dropping out of school touch me as an individual hence this gesture. I felt compelled to dig into my pockets and help these young children,” said Jani.

Manicaland Rugby Board has unearthed unpolished gems in Honde Valley where Sahumani Secondary School girls surprised everyone including themselves when they matched their urban counterparts in both skill and stamina.

A strenuous mission for coaches Phanuel Toro and Shepherd Mundozi, backed by provincial rugby administration leadership, saw female youngsters at the remote Sahumani Secondary School defying the odds in a game that has traditionally been played by the elite.

The school made its debut at the prestigious Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival in 2017.
The establishment of a jungle gym at Sahumani Secondary is also more evidence of corporate assistance the project has been getting in recent months.
