A CHIPINGE Town Council security officer, Mr Farai Fragueza is lucky to be alive after unknown assailants broke into the local authority’s Gaza maintenance premises and severely attacked him, before making good their escape with water pipes worth thousands of dollars.

Mr Fragueza was admitted at Chipinge District Hospital after more than eight robbers armed with dangerous weapons attacked him a fortnight ago.

He was discharged last week and is recuperating at home.

The town council chairperson, Councillor Lovemore Mkwapati confirmed the incident and appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station.

“Our security guard who was manning the Gaza Water Maintenance premises was attacked by robbers on a Sunday morning.

“The robbers who were allegedly armed with logs and sharp objects stole valuables that include water pipes and loaded the loot in their truck,” he said.

Councillor Mkwapati added: “We are appealing for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information can contact our chief security officer or the police.”

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the robbery and said investigations are underway.
