SIX unidentified robbers pounced at Joubert Crashers in Nyanyadzi on Monday night and got away with property worth US$3 600.

Police confirmed the robbery and said Jealous Mahanzu (55) of Nenhowe Village under Chief Mutambara who is employed as a security guard was on duty when the robbers attacked.

“Mahanzu was unarmed. Three of the six robbers approached him armed with machetes and demanded to know where the electric motors were being kept. Mahanzu tried to run away, but the robbers caught up with him. They manhandled him and tied his hands with a rope,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda.

He said the gang stole two tyres, a welding machine and a generator, all valued at US$3 600.

Nothing was recovered.

The security guard later untied himself and made a report at Birchenough Bridge Police Post.  Police who attended the scene discovered a motor vehicle parked meters away from the crime scene. Investigations are in progress to ascertain whether the vehicle can be linked to the crime. Police have urged businesses to employ robust security measures like arming their security guards and installing security aides like closed circuit television to avoid loss of valuable property to robbers.
