A DEVELOPMENT partner, Goal Zimbabwe last week donated personal protective equipment to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital worth thousands of dollars.

Matron for Infection, Prevention and Control at the hospital, Mrs Beaula Gudyanga, said the donation will help in increasing the hospital’s capacity to reduce the spreading of Covid-19 in key departments which include the isolation unit, maternity ward as well as the emergency department.

“Like any other health institution in the country, the hospital is facing some limitations in terms of procuring protective equipment and materials and this donation will be of great use and we are grateful for Goal Zimbabwe’s gesture.

“Thank you for remembering us. This will go a long way in making sure that our health care workers are protected as well as our patients. The donation will be put to good use and we will second them to departments that have more volume of patients who need a lot of PPEs for use during their day-to-day activities,” she said.

Goal Zimbabwe handed over 70 tyvec suits, 600 N95 masks, 110 boxes of surgical masks and 100 boxes of latex gloves.
Goal Zimbabwe provincial coordinator for Manicaland and Masvingo provinces, Mr Tinashe Tsekwete, said the donation was funded by Drop Box, an Ireland-based development partner.

“We hope the donation will go a long way in terms of assisting staff and patients. We started off with Mutare because we have a long presence in Manicaland. We will continue fundraising towards donating to other hospitals in areas that we work in,” he said.
