LONG-SERVING Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, bade farewell to the institution he served for 26 years during a colourful ceremony held in Vumba on Wednesday.

Speaking during a farewell ceremony held for the retired police officer, speaker after speaker hailed the outgoing provincial police spokesperson for his dedication to duty as well as relentless efforts in the public relations office.

Representing the Officer Commanding Manicaland Province, Commissioner Priscilla Makototse, Assistant Commissioner Patrick Majuta, commended Mr Chananda for being exemplary in the execution of his duties.

“The force will definitely miss your dedication and enthusiasm. You represented the ZRP very well, and should remain in touch with your former office to teach the youngsters on how best to conduct business,” he said.

Mr Chananda joined the police force in 1995.

Former provincial police spokesperson and now Dangamvura Police Station’s Officer-in-charge, Chief Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa commended Mr Chananda for diligently executing his duties, resulting in the provincial commanding finding it worthy to organise a farewell party for him.

“He was ever ready to work on any assignment, and was always on the forefront of duties. I was glad to pass the baton stick to him as the provincial police spokesperson,” he said.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services’ provincial spokesperson, Chief Correctional Officer Liberty Mhlanga, said Mr Chananda was a dedicated colleague and cadre whom he worked with on many occasions.

“While he was ever ready to work on any assignments from the ZRP, he was also readily available for our office at the ZPCS. He assisted us at all times,” he said.

Mr Chananda thanked his colleagues and friends for honouring him through the farewell party.

“I am exceedingly happy to be the centre of attraction at this memorable event. To me, this is not a farewell party as there is no way I can bid farewell to the Zimbabwe Republic Police as it is home to me, and home is where I belong,” he said.

He said he was elevating and repositioning himself to an altitude where he could observe, pull up and aid his former workmates from another angle.
