RETAIL giant OK Zimbabwe, through its hybrid one-stop mega shop OK Mart, is courting schools and incubating their skills to venture into sustainable income-generating projects.

The retail giant last Friday met about 317 school heads, bursars and School Development Committee (SDC) chairpersons in Mutare where the school authorities were exposed an assortment of new products in stock. The new stocks include office furniture, generators and water pumps, which schools can acquire for income-generating projects.

OK Mart branch manager Mr Charles Mutasa said schools should implement projects that are above the board as the retail giant only provides the best to ethical clients.

“Cattle and goat husbandry, poultry and horticulture are some of the projects we are looking for from schools in Manicaland.

“We should not be looking for these products from others provinces when we have the ideal climatic conditions and capacity to produce them among schools in Manicaland,” he said.

“There is need to strengthen our relationship with schools since we have a ready market for them here. Your products do not have to be transported to markets in Harare because the mega market is already here at OK Mart. It is a win-win partnership for the parties involved,” Mr Mutasa said.

Mr Mutasa said OK Zimbabwe is a listed company, and therefore sells top-of-the-range and high quality products.

He said for the company’s relationship with schools to blossom and last, the latter should strive to provide the best produce.

Mr Mutasa also said the company has a special way to acknowledge loyal schools as well as outstanding individual customers.

OK Mart, which caters for domestic, catering industry, schools, traders, hospitals and companies, provides a diversified range of products under one roof.

Mt Selinda High deputy head Mrs Barbra Sithole said OK Mart often assists her school during difficult times.

She attributed this to the cordial relationship between the two organisations.

“Our relationship with OK Mart is cordial, mutually beneficial and continues to grow. During the period of basic commodities shortages and price distortions, OK Mart helped us to find essential products that were scarce on the market.

“Some of these products were boarding provisions that the school could not do without. Whenever we ran short of any essential product they would help us to find it from their sister branches across the country,” she said.

Mrs Sithole said OK Mart offers the advantage of satisfying their needs under one roof – from stationery, building materials, groceries, beef and fresh produce, among others.
