Notorious burglar nabbed Detectives have launched a manhunt for the criminals infamous for using hammers and iron bars to both break the houses and attack their victims

DETECTIVES at Mutare Central have arrested a notorious burglar who pounced on 11 houses and stole property worth over $20 000. The suspect Wellington Musodza (32), of House Number N98B, Dangamvura pleaded guilty to all the counts unlawful entry, as defined in Section 131 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23, when he appeared before Ms Perseverance Makala.

Mr Mathew Chimutunga prosecuted.

Musodza targeted houses in Chikanga, Natview Park, Hobhouse, Destiny, Dangamvura and Zimta. The break-ins were committed between September 2018 and January 2019.

He was finally arrested on January 23, 2019 through an ambushed while in the middle of a heist in Natview Park.

On the evening in question, he went to Nolia Charlie’s house at Number 8961 Natview Park and used a spanner to force open the back door. The complainant heard the noise and alerted neighbours, who quickly got in touch with a team of detectives that was trailing the suspect.

The dragnet squad comprised of Detectives Assistant Inspector Mazambani, Det Constables Makura, Hove and Kamota. The police officers reacted swiftly to the distress call and apprehended the accused when he was committing the offence.

After his arrest, the suspect was taken to CID Mutare for further investigations.

During interrogations Musodza confessed to committing 10 other break-ins which led to the recovery of an assortment of stolen items.

He looted anything that came his way, including food stuffs.

Some of the stolen items were later recovered from people that had bought them from the accused person at give away prices.
