A 29-YEAR-OLD Chipinge woman has been dragged to court after she was arrested for growing 412 plants of dagga.

Annah Sithole of Mwazoonei Village under Chief Musikavanhu appeared before Chipinge resident magistrate Mr Franklyn Mkwananzi facing charges of unlawfully possessing dangerous drugs.

She pleaded not guilty and the matter was remanded to May 25.

Prosecuting, Mrs Chipo Matanga told the court that on May 14 at around 8pm police from Chipinge rural were on patrol at Pfidza area when they received a tip-off that Sithole was cultivating dagga in her garden.

“The police proceeded to Sithole’s homestead for investigations. After being interrogated, she led them to her garden where 412 dagga plants were discovered,” said Mrs Matanga.

The dagga plants were uprooted, leading to Sithole’s arrest.

Police are intensifying efforts to curb the peddling of drugs and other dangerous substances in order to fight the drug abuse menace.
