IN a move aimed at bridging the digital divide between rural schools and their urban counterparts, two computer laboratories have been constructed at Mundenda Secondary School in Ward 16 of Mutasa District.

The computer labs were constructed through community mobilisation of resources.

The ward’s representative in the local authority, Councillor Patrick Mukahanana confirmed the development, saying this will greatly enhance learners’ access to digital learning.

“We are excited about this latest development in our community. This is a welcome move and it will significantly improve digital learning at the school. Plaudits go to the community for ensuring the success of this initiative by mobilising the required resources. True to the spirit of leaving no person and no place behind, we are also moving with the times,” said Cllr Mukahanana.

He added that they are moving to equip the laboratories and have already received 30 computers from a well-wisher.

Government is committed to reducing the current 90 percent deficit of Information and Communication Technologies in schools through the Computer Lab per School Programme.

The drive is part of efforts to attain a digital economy by 2030 as envisaged in Vision 2030 through National Development Strategy (NDS1).
