THERE is need for a policy that demands stipulated production levels from individuals who benefited from the land reform programme, senior Zanu PF officials have been told.

During a meeting held in Mutare today, which is part of the ruling party’s tour of all the country’s provinces to hear problems and possible solutions to issues affecting businesses, Affirmative Action Group Manicaland executive member Mr Ngoni Mudekunye said the lack of production on farms has contributed to the underperformance of the economy.

“We have farmers possessing land just for the sake of it. We have individuals that have not produced anything since they benefited from the land reform. Therefore, we now need a policy or legislation that demands productivity on farms. We really need to make use of these farms and boost our productivity as a country,” said Mr Mudekunye.

In his opening remarks, Zanu PF Secretary for Commissariat Cde Mike Bimha said the purpose of the tour is get first hand information on issues affecting business operations in the country.

“We are here to get first hand information on the situations that you are facing in your daily operations. We do not want you to tell us what you think we want to hear. We need input from people in this meeting. For us to find solutions we need to hear the truth. We will compile a report for every province that will be put into one national report,” said Cde Bimha, who attended the meeting in Mutare together with Cdes Patrick Chinamasa and Mike Madiro.

The meeting in Manicaland was the second after a similar one was held in Harare.
