A MAKONI school was recently dealt a heavy blow after armed robbers besieged the institution and stole 12 laptops, derailing the teaching of information, communication and technology to learners.
Three robbers armed with iron bars and a cutting grinder subdued a security guard at Chiwetu Primary School in Makoni West and broke into the administration block and stole the laptops.
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said they have launched a manhunt for the suspects who stole the gadgets valued at US$3 000.
“On April 7, 2025 at around 11:30pm, the complainant Elias Chawaita (54), who is a security guard at the school, was on duty and seated at the administration block. Three accused person approached him armed with iron bars and a cutting grinder. One of the accused person ordered him to remain silent and he complied. One of the accused persons tied his hands and legs with a rope.
“The other two broke into the administration block using iron bars to gain entry. One was left guarding the guard. Two suspects took 12 laptops, 4x2l cocking oil, 4x1kg salt and an adapter and fled from the scene. The security guard managed to untie himself and informed Layford Rusafe, a school teacher and a police report was made.
“Value stolen is US$3 018 and nothing has been recovered. Police is appealing for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Those with information and should approach the nearest police station,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
