THE country’s biggest funeral and event services provider, Nyaradzo Group, today held its 22nd birthday marathon run in Nyazura in which hundreds of amateur and professional runners took part.

The athletes ran for 22 kilometres – the number of years that the company has been in existence, having been established in March 2001.

The marathon funfair was dubbed the #totempriderun, and started off at Nyazura Township along the Nyazura-Chivhu Road to the Mahere area which coincidentally is the birthplace and rural home of the group’s chief executive officer, Mr Phillip Mataranyika.

This was in appreciation of the excellent work that the diminutive, but shrewd business mogul has done to morph Nyaradzo from an unknown entity into a global brand without diluting its indigenous Zimbabwean roots.

Mr Mataranyika, who took part in the marathon, said the group takes pride in being part of events that promote social, mental, and physical wellbeing.

He said over the years, Nyaradzo has been involved in various sports such as soccer, golf, cricket and rugby to promote a healthy lifestyle and raising awareness about fitness and health through running.

“We are happy to successfully host this event which is a product of our years of service to the public. As you can see there are a lot of people and athletes who are here to help us celebrate 22 years of service to the country through a marathon run. On Friday we were here handing over a three classroom block that we constructed at Mahere Secondary School, and we are going to be doing more to develop this community. This is the community that raised us, and we are very happy to plough back by addressing discernible gaps with an impact on the future generations,” said Mr Mataranyika.
