MUTARE City Council is not going back on the implementation of a Government directive to clear vendors off undesignated selling points, especially in the Central Business District irrespective of the resistance the local authority faced on the first day.
There were running battles at a busy vending area in the city centre on Friday as vendors and the municipal police clashed.
Mutare City Council Town Clerk Mr Blessing Chafesuka said: “It’s (the resistance) always part of enforcement. Irrespective of that, orderliness is required. Cholera is back in the country and if we fail to control vending, cholera will overwhelm this nation.”
