THE production of water in Mutare remains depressed as the city is facing shortage of the precious commodity owing to technical challenges at some of its reservoirs.

Mutare has been experiencing water challenges for the greater part of this month as production was disturbed after the city’s major water sources experienced high turbidity after heavy rains that were received in Mutasa District which affected the Odzani Water Treatment Plant.

Turbidity is the measurement of how clear or cloudy water is and is caused by suspended particles such as mud, silt and algae.

In a notice to the public, Mutare City Council said they are working to rectify the problem.

“To all our esteemed residents and stakeholders, please, be advised that there is a developing city-wide shortage emanating from technical challenges between Odzani and Christmas Pass reservoirs. While our engineering team is working flat out to bring the situation to normalcy, it may take up to 10 days to completely bring the situation to normalcy for all our customers. The 10 days started on November 25,” reads the notice.

The local authority urged residents to use water sparingly during this period, saying they are in the process of hiring motorised water bowsers to assist distressed customers.
