MUTASA District will soon be a major producer of honey and other secondary products, with a big project set for official launch next Thursday.

Fielding questions from participants during the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) provincial engagement meeting, Minister of State for Manicaland Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza said: “We will be launching a big honey producing project in Mutasa South constituency on June 14 (Thursday). 3 000 beehives are on site, and apart from processing honey, other products such as candles will also be produced there. This is one of the many value addition and beneficiaries projects that we have lined up for Manicaland Province as we move towards eradicating poverty and ensure the attainment of Vision 2030 goals. This also dovetails into the devolution agenda as this spreads development to once marginalised areas.”

Speaking at the same function, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) coordinator for Mutare Diocese Mr Elliot Vengesa said: “As CCJP, we have embarked on a devolution awareness agenda as we seek to let every member of the community be a participant in this initiative. We feel that if we are to develop as a country, we need everyone on board so that they not only understand but also play their part.”

The stakeholder engagement meeting saw different participants that include members of community representatives, ZHOCD partners that include Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace, Zimbabwe Council of Churches, Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe and UDACIZA, raising and debating on different issues related to community development while proffering solutions across Manicaland.

The project is supported by Trocaire and funded by the European Union.
