GREENFUEL are not relenting in their quest for Premiership promotion after picking another important 1-0 victory over visiting JM Busha 54 at the weekend.

The win saw the ethanol producers maintain their nine-point lead at the summit of the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One log standings with 53 points from 21 games. They remain undefeated with 16 wins and five draws.

Despite posting an identical win away to Surrey, Mutare City Rovers will have to play catch-up to reduce the deficit. They remain in second position, nine points off the pace.

With the way the title race is panning out, another team from Manicaland Province is set to earn promotion into the top-tier division, with GreenFuel coach Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa keen to repeat a similar feat he achieved with the now defunct Highway in 2010.

Manica Diamonds Juniors continued with their revival after defeating Pro Melfort 2-1 at Mutare Showgrounds. This is their second successive victory after claiming the scalp of Buffaloes in a local derby in the previous fixture. The Gem Boys Juniors have been steadily climbing out of the drop zone and leapfrogged up one place on the table.

Buffaloes, however, were the only team from Manicaland that was on the losing end in the weekend’s games after going down 2-0 to fellow former Premiership side Masvingo United at Mucheke Stadium. The army out are hovering in the mid-table and are effectively out of the equation in the champion race.
