MINISTER of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Honourable Tinomuda Machakaire has emphasized the importance of guaranteeing employment for National Youth Service graduates.
This stance is rooted in the understanding that the graduates have acquired valuable skills and ideals of patriotism and discipline during their service, and therefore, should be prioritized for employment opportunities.
The ministry has established programmes to facilitate the placement of NYS graduates in Government, parastatals and other organizations, as well as enrollment in higher and tertiary education institutions.
By guaranteeing employment for these graduates, Government aims to empower young people and contribute to the country’s development and growth.
Minister Machakaire also stressed the need for the private sector to adopt a similar approach, recognizing that lack of discipline and patriotism contributes to various societal vices, and by prioritizing employment for NYS graduates, Zimbabwe fosters a brighter future for its youth.
“We want to see these NYS getting employed in Government and private sector because these are the youths that have been drilled and inculcated ideals of discipline, hard work and patriotism.
To this end, I will fight to the bitter end.
“In fact, next year’s Youth Day will see the theme being tailored around issues relating to employing these youths. We have already started engagements with the Public Service Commission and all Government departments so that these graduands get employed. This, we will make sure happens. We also want the same spirit to permeate even in the private sector. Some of the vices that we are witnessing in communities around the country are a result of a sheer lack of discipline and patriotism. We really need to be serious about this as a country if we are to guarantee ourselves of a brighter future for our youth,” said Honourable Machakaire.
Minister of Women Affairs, Community Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa urged young females to maintain discipline, patriotism and hard work as a way to be successful.
The 250 graduates of the rebranded Youth Service Zimbabwe, Vumba intake one of 2024 have successfully completed an intensive six-month training programme.
This comprehensive training equipped them with hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of Government policy, familiarization with the country’s development priorities and strategies while cultivating a sense of national pride, loyalty, and dedication to Zimbabwe’s growth and prosperity.
