THE winter wheat producer price for the 2024 marketing season will be paid fully in United States dollars, the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has announced.
In a statement, GMB chief executive officer, Dr Edson Badarai said standard and premium wheat grades will fetch US$450 and US$470, respectively.
He said GMB will buy wheat produced under the Presidential Input Programme.
“Grain Marketing Board advises all its valued farmers and stakeholders that the winter wheat marketing price has been approved as US$450 for standard grade and US$470 for premium grade. The payment modality is 100 percent in US$ currency.
“GMB will purchase all wheat financed under the Presidential Input Programme (PIP) and also wheat from self-financed farmers, wherein self-financed farmers will sell to the best advantage, either to GMB or the market,” he said.
Dr Badarai said GMB remains the buyer of last resort, adding that the grain utility was committed to working with farmers and all stakeholders towards attainment of national food security.
“Contractors will buy back contracted wheat at market prices. Furthermore, GMB, working with Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX), shall provide commercial warehouse receipts services to all players,” he said.
