AFTER securing an impressive 1-0 victory over cross-town rivals Buffaloes, Manica Diamonds Juniors believe they have what it takes to steer clear from the murky waters of relegation in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One.

A solitary Simba Nhevedzo strike in the first half gave the second-tier league debutants the bragging rights in the local derby against the former Premiership army outfit.

An elated Gem Boys Juniors coach Hibron “Adhala Chommiey” Makukutu hailed his charges for their fighting spirit and challenged them to string together a sustained run of positive results.

The side has largely struggled for consistency and Makukutu is hoping to turn things around during the second half of the campaign.

Last weekend’s victory was only their third in 20 matches.

“That was a good result, especially against an established opponent of Buffaloes’ stature. However, we are not resting on our laurels but will continuing working hard for more good results. We had a somewhat difficult start to the season but I am impressed that it is all coming together now. The boys are up for it and geared to fight for every point on offer until the end of the season. As a club, we believe that we can achieve our goals,” said the ex-Highway captain.

Makukutu said Manica Diamonds Juniors will go all out for another victory when they host Pro Melfort this weekend.

Meanwhile, pacesetters GreenFuel continued with their fine run after making light work of Zaka Academy 4-0 in their own backyard. Their closest chasing rivals Mutare City Rovers returned to winning ways after defeating Grayham by a similar scoreline.
