THE ZIFA Eastern Region Division One league marathon over the weekend resumed for the second round of the season following a month-long break, with teams based in Manicaland enjoying a fruitful outing.

Chisumbanje outfit GreenFuel made light work of Lowveld United with a thumping 6-0 victory to maintain pole position and stretch their lead at the top to six points.

They have now amassed 41 points after 17 games.

Mutare City Rovers (35), who occupy the second spot on the log, kept alive their hopes of pipping the ethanol producers to the title after picking a precious point on the road away to third-placed Ruwa ProGroup following a 1-1 stalemate.

Improving Manica Diamonds Juniors blew some winds into their sail from the murky waters of relegation after picking up maximum points in a 1-0 victory over visiting Surrey.

Their coach Hibron “Adhala Chommiey” Makukutu was delighted with the result and hailed his charges for a good performance.

“As a team, we are happy with the win. We are gradually getting there; the teams is gelling and results are coming. This challenges us to continue working hard and improve on all aspects of our game as we chase our goal of being a competitive outfit and force to reckon with,” said Makukutu.
