IT was a weekend of adverse football fortunes for Manicaland’s representatives in the Castle Lager Premiership as both Tenax and Manica Diamonds lost their weekend fixtures by an identical 2-0 scoreline.

The struggling prisons wardens went down at home to ZPC Kariba while the diamond miners were defeated at defending champions FC Platinum.

The results leave Chauya Chikara deep in relegation trouble, while the Gem Boys’ title bid is now in tatters.

Tenax remain second from bottom above fellow correctional services outfit, Whawha with 21 points from 26 games, while Manica Diamonds slipped out of the top four.

They are now placed sixth with 39 points and trail log leaders FC Platinum by 16 points.

With the league marathon approaching the finishing line, the two cross-town rivals are running out of games as they pursue different goals at the two ends of the table.

Inconsistent Manica Diamonds appear to be running out of steam to sustain their challenge for the big prize, while leaky Tenax’s relegation misery is compounding with each passing week as they are losing more than they are winning.

Following the promotion of GreenFuel, the football faithful in the province remain hopeful that the two stay up so that Manicaland boasts a historic feat of three teams in the elite league.
