Ray Bande in NYANGA
MUTARE-BASED triathlete Mandlenkosi Mthethwa (19) saw his participation in the 2025 Bonaqua Triathlon Africa Cup come to an embarrassing outing after finishing in last position in the competition held in Nyanga today.
The 2025 edition of the Bonaqua Triathlon Africa Cup contest brought together a sizeable number of triathletes from around the world.
Unfortunately, Mthethwa’s campaign got off to a poor start, finishing last in the swim and was unable to gain ground in the bike and race categories.
Currently at an advanced stage of recovering from injury, Mthethwa now looks forward to returning to the undulating terrain of Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga as an elite participant in next year’s edition.
Fellow Zimbabwean Callum Smith, one of three locals competing in the junior category, secured fourth position, while Stanley Chasakara finished fifth. Zimbabwe did not have a representative in the elite category.
This year’s event attracted participants from South Africa, Namibia, Morocco, Austria, Germany, the USA, Japan and the Netherlands, in both the junior and elite races.
