AN Odzi man allegedly brutally attacked his ex-wife with an okapi knife in the stomach, leaving her with severe injuries and protruding intestines.
The violent attack, which is being handled as attempted murder, stemmed from allegations that the victim, Beanca Bandura (24) was cheating on Tinashe Madzingira (29).
This was despite the fact that the two had divorced over infidelity allegations.
A heavily bashed Bandura desperately tried to escape, but lost her balance and slipped, giving Madzingira an opportunity to stab her in the stomach.
Bandura was admitted at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where her condition is said to be critical.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said investigations are in progress, and appealed to members of the public to always resolve disputes amicably.
He said police were treating the case as attempted murder.
“On August 30, at around 8pm, Madzingire made his way to Mazone Farm with the intention of visiting Bandura. However, upon arrival, he was unable to locate her. Frustrated and seemingly fuelled by suspicion, Madzingira gathered through the grapevine that Bandura had gone to see her boyfriend. Instead of leaving or seeking clarification, Madzingira chose to wait for her return, lingering in the shadows until the next morning when Bandura arrived home with her sister, Annia Mauta (22).
“Madzingira confronted her, sparking a heated dispute, which quickly turned violent as Madzingira brutally attacked the woman, while she desperately tried to escape. Tragically, she slipped and fell, leaving her vulnerable to further assaults. She was stabbed in the stomach with an okapi knife, leading to the gruesome injury in which intestines were left protruding from the stomach. She was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, where she was admitted. Her condition is critical,” he said.
A report was made at Mutare Rural Police Station, and police attended the scene and arrested Madzingira.
