JABULANI Ndunge, the eldest son of the late famous Chipinge sangoma Sekuru Ndunge was last Wednesday hauled before the courts on allegations of stealing US$7 300 and R9 600 from his ex wife.
Ndunge (45), who was represented by lawyer Mr Tariro Tazvitya, appeared before Chipinge magistrate Mr Joshua Nembare and pleaded not guilty to the theft charges.
Ms Sekesai Mwayera prosecuted.
Ms Mwayera told the court that on June 11, Ndunge visited his ex-wife Ethel Loreen Jenhu’s place – House Number 1961, Chipinge – and asked for the main bedroom keys from the maid, but was not given.
Jenhu (35) and Ndunge were once married, and during the subsistence of their marriage built the said house together.
The erstwhile couple divorced late last year, having completed the house.
Following their divorce, the two shared the rooms, with the complainant becoming the lawful occupier of the main bedroom.
The accused had no right to access of the main bedroom.
On June 11, around 3pm, Ndunge allegedly entered the premises and climbed through the trusses to gain entry into the complainant’s bedroom.
While inside, he allegedly ransacked the room and dumped all the property outside the house.
In the process, he is allegedly bumped onto US$7 300 and R9 600 that was under the mattress, and vanished with it.
Nothing was recovered.
Ndunge’s lawyer, Mr Tazvitya pleaded with the court to throw away the case arguing that it hinges on sour grapes.
He pointed out that the complainant was out to fix his client for dumping her and marrying another wife.
The trial was still on at the time of going to print yesterday.
