A LEGION of Chimanimani female villagers are up in arms with a local traditional healer-cum-prophet whom they are accusing of sexually abusing them in their sleep through supernatural means (mubobobo) and stealing their underwear.

This came to light last week on Friday when a bag full of the villagers’ missing undergarments was found near the self-proclaimed prophet, Sekuru Isaac Musikavanhu’s homestead in Chiumba Village.

More than 50 panties of different sizes were in the bag and 15 women positively identified theirs.

Besides sexually terrorising women in their sleep, the 70-year-old man is also being accused of causing several miscarriages.

One of the villagers, Ms Chipo Shereni, said she found nine of her missing panties in the bag. She said some of the panties disappeared from her bathroom, while others vanished from a locked wardrobe.

“My panties started disappearing in September last year. My two daughters also couldn’t find their panties and we never suspected that Sekuru Musikavanhu was behind it as he is a well respected person in the neighbourhood.

“I was surprised to see all of my missing panties and those of my daughters in his bag. I am convinced that Sekuru Musikavanhu has been sexually abusing us,” said Ms Shereni.

Another woman only identified as Mai Sylvia weighed in: “The panties would disappear from our bathrooms and bedrooms. I do not know how he would snatch them. We were actually fighting in the village as we were now accusing each other of stealing the underwear.

“Besides stealing our undergarments, Sekuru Musikavanhu would occasionally feature in our dreams. He usually targets pregnant women and I have suffered three miscarriages because of his sexual shenanigans,” said Mai Sylvia.

Ms Tecla Maroso also claimed that she suffered countless miscarriages after Sekuru Musikavanhu’s ‘visits’ in her dreams.

“I did not know that he was using mububobo on me until I visited several apostolic healers who told me that. I would have a feeling that I was being intimate with someone, yet my husband would be away.

“My husband and I were no longer enjoying intimacy as Musikavanhu would leave me tired. His evil powers was also making my husband impotent in bed. Almost every women in this village is Sekuru Musikavanhu’s victim,” said Ms Maroso.

Village head, Muzvare Chiumba said no one had been suspecting that Sekuru Musikavanhu was behind the women’s suffering.

“No one suspected that it was Sekuru Musikavanhu since he is a prophet and a traditional healer.

“I have referred the matter to the headman because of its complexity. We have consulted various prophets and they are all pointing fingers at Sekuru Musikavanhu,” said Muzvare Chiumba.

However, Sekuru Musikavanhu is distancing himself from the allegations.

In an interview with The Weekender, the traditional healer-cum-prophet said his enemies are on a mission to tarnish his image.

“This matter hurts me so badly because I am being wrongly accused of sexually abusing those women and stealing their underwear. They are trying to force me to admit to a crime I never committed.

“They claim that they found that bag near my homestead and therefore I was responsible for the disappearance of their underwear. I have never used mubobobo. Why would I stoop so low when I am married?

However, Sekuru Musikavanhu’s wife could not completely exonerate her husband from any wrong doings.

She told The Weekender that her husband’s ‘surgery’ is a no-go area for their family.

“On many occasions, our children have consulted traditional healers and they have been told that their father is behind the family’s misfortunes. They have been trying to cleanse their father’s evil spirits but he always turns a deaf ear. He adamantly claims his innocence. He will obviously deny possessing mubobobo,” said Gogo Musikavanhu.

Madzibaba Spartco (Trust Mandiregerera) said he recovered the paraphernalia that was being used by Sekuru Musikavanhu to sexually abuse women in their sleep.
