A THIEF that was caught stealing goats while wearing an underwear and vest has been convicted and jailed eight months for stock theft by a Mutare magistrate.

Lovemore (37), of Hobhouse, had three months set aside for five years on usual grounds while the other five months were scrapped on condition that he performs 145 hours of community service at the Sacred Hearts in Hobhouse.

Magistrate Mrs Prisca Manhibi presided over the matter.

Mr Chris Munyuki prosecuted.

Mr Munyuki told the court that Philip Mukucha (50), of Plot 1, Weirmouth, had his goats secured in a pen.

The accused hatched a plan to steal Mukucha’s goats and broke into the pen through the roof, which was not covered.

Mukucha heard some strange noise from the goat pen and went out to investigate.

He spotted the convict wearing a blue underwear and vest. Upon seeing Mukucha, the convict jumped out of the pen and pelted him with a stone on the right hand before running away from the scene.

He left behind two black track bottoms, a black sun hat, blue slippers and an orange cellphone, which Mukucha took to police on October 5, leading to the subsequent arrest of the convict.
