MUTARE-BORN soccer player, Anelka Chivandire, who is turning out for Ngezi Platinum, will later this month try his luck with South African top-flight league side, TTM.

The former Africa Trust forward, who hone his football skills during his secondary school days at St Mathias Tsonzo in Mutasa District where he earned attention and admiration during the annual Sakupwanya Tournament, confirmed the development.

“Yes, I have been invited for trials in South Africa and plans are afoot for me to travel there and see if I can fit in their plans. I will give further details after the trials,” said the soft spoken former Chikanga Primary School pupil.

Chivandire is not a stranger to many followers of the game of football, especially in Mutare, after spending years under the tutelage of coach Timothy ‘Sicho’ Masachi at La Sakubva.

In 2017, he then moved to the now defunct Mutasa-based Eastern Region Division One outfit, Africa Trust.

He later moved to Premiership side, Triangle, where he spent two years before being snatched by Ngezi Platinum.

His handler, James Lunga-Meya, a South African based construction entrepreneur who has assisted a number of Mutare-born players realise their dreams to play professional football, spoke glowingly of Chivandire’s potential.

“I see a lot of talent and potential in Chivandire and he has what it takes to make the grade in the SA PSL and beyond. I enjoy working with him. I will keep on pushing and supporting him till he achieves his dream.

“We need to have more players from Manicaland representing us in these competitive leagues. We will keep encouraging others in the province’s football circles to keep working hard so that we can open more doors for them,” said Meya.
