ELEGANT Mutare model, Tanaka Dumbura, has stepped up preparations for the impending Miss Culture Zimbabwe beauty pageant scheduled for Harare on July 30.

Dumbura says she is unfazed by the stiff competition that will be posed by other provincial competitors.

The national finals will be held at Casino Marina at Longchen Mall under the theme ‘Celebrating culture, diversity and identity.’

Dumbura (26), who is the only Manicaland representative, will square off with 15 other finalists drawn from various provinces across the country.

She will join Alisha Bwanya, Chantel Baison, Mitchell Simeon and Shalom Jack who will represent Harare.

Patience Gumbo, Tanaka Chiruka, Shamah Mawoko and Ellain Ncube will represent Bulawayo.

Scholasticah Makoni, Ropafadzo Gura and Ntasha Zhuwawu will represent Midlands Province.

Constance Saeti will represent Masvingo, while Tinashe Dahwa, Priscilla Chitsa and Ruvimbo Rusamhu will represent Mashonaland Provinces.

“I am not yet completely ready, but I am working on it. I have undergone training in several areas like catwalk and speech and I am happy with the progress. I am confident and hope to make Manicaland proud,” she said.

She added: “I am currently doing a lot of charity work and I am also running a campaign called ‘15 000 school shoes for Zimbabwe’ where I am sourcing for donations to hand them over to less-privileged and marginalised learners. I am also passionate about karate and I am an aspiring lawyer and human rights activist.”

Dumbura, a university graduate, did her primary and secondary education at Dudzai Primary School in Harare as well as St Killian’s and St Columbus’ High Schools in Manicaland.

Besides being a model, Dumbura is a talented karateka and is perfecting her kyokushin skills.

“I believe in the emancipation of women. I advocate for diversity in the modelling industry. I believe African women must not be governed by stereotypes surrounding their development,” she added.

She has contested in pageants such as Miss Charity Zimbabwe 2020, Miss Manicaland Queen 2020 and the Miss Valentine’s 2020 where she was crowned first princess.

The Miss Culture contest is being hosted by reigning Miss Culture Zimbabwe, Pauline Marere, who is also the licence holder of the pageant.

The Miss Culture International pageant aims to celebrate different cultures through showcasing beauty and fashion.

Marere participated in the tightly-contested Miss Culture International finals in South Africa in 2021 where she was the first runner-up.

The pageant was won by Filipino model, Samela Godin.
